But there is another magical event that you must be sure to attend: the Winter Festival at the Southbank Centre. Celebrate the winter season at a lively Christmas market, with choral singing and Christmas shows, and don't forget to savour the traditional Christmas delicacies, all along the banks of the Thames. The Lyon Christmas Market (24/11 to 24/12)

In the capital of quality cuisine, Christmas markets are synonymous with "food": taste the savoury 'tartiflettes' (a kind of potato pie) filled with Diots de Savoie sausages, a truffle Aligot (a cheese and potato dish) or delicious ravioli! Magical Maastricht (01/12 - 02/01)

The charming Christmas stalls of the Maastricht market are set up at Vrijthof, around the ice rink. In winter, the old town is lit up with 1001 lights: admire the animated lights on the 1992 Square and the Markt, follow the circuit of 200 mistletoe lights in the trees along the Onze Lieve Vrouwplein, etc. Enjoy this festive atmosphere by seeing it from above: treat yourself to a trip on the large Ferris wheel.
